WIN A $100 GIFT CARD FROM JORD WOODEN WATCHES

If you follow this blog then you know my values, especially when it comes to manufactured "stuff". So when the lovely folk at JORD watches (pronounced -yoad) suggested partnering with me for a giveaway, I asked a LOT of questions before I said yes. JORD creates unique, sustainable, luxury wooden watches. Just how sustainable are they? Read on friends and prepare to be impressed.

Made in St Louis, MO (yay local!), the great majority of the wood used comes from furniture remnants. Yup - upcycled wood. How cool is that? Since it takes very small pieces to create the cases and individual links, the makers at JORD are able to utilise what would otherwise end up as waste material.

Both the Bamboo and Maple that they source is completely sustainable, and as is expected in the industry, all of their Koa comes from damaged trees or trees that were brought down by a natural weather event.

They also pay attention to environmental safeguards, not only for the sake of the environment, but for the sake of those who work on the watches. All of the watches are treated with natural substances only and are conditioned with natural tung oil. That’s it!

Anything else? Well, yes. Many JORD models include self-winding, automatic mechanisms. That means no battery waste, ever. In the case of the watch I chose, it also means that I can watch the little wheels and gears spin and tick. I'm completely mesmerised by the movement and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a watch that’s as beautiful from the back as it is from the front!

Finally, there's the packaging. Not only do many of their gorgeous timepieces come in a collector’s edition humidor cedar watch box, they're also shipped plastic free. The presentation is gorgeous and whatever isn’t wood is recyclable cardboard.

The watch I chose for myself is the Dover Acacia and Olive. I'm sentimental about both woods, but primarily Acacia because I grew up in South Africa. Fitting then that I was able to photograph the watch while in Cape Town recently! It's been a while since a wore a watch - I tend to rely on my phone for the time. But the strap was sized for me when I ordered the piece and it's really comfortable to wear. Also, the watch is truly as beautiful as it looks. So I'm a very happy new fan and I'm delighted to introduce this company to you guys.
